A diet of fruits and veggies is always good for strong eyes but a new study suggests that red wine combined with dark chocolate could help boost eye health benefits as old age approaches.
Recent research published in JAMA Ophthalmology associated eating dark chocolate with improvements in vision two hours after consumption. It contains cocoa flavanols nutritional compounds which protect the retina against oxidative stress that could lead to conditions such as retinal vein occlusion, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy over time.
Red wine also has flavonoids such as anthocyanins and quercetin that reduce oxidative stress and improve blood circulation in the eyes. The flavonoids and others in red wine lower the risk of eye cataracts that comes at old age.
Essentially, a combination of dark chocolate and red wine is ideal for keeping your vision in top shape. However, the bottom line is, enjoy both in moderation.
Moreover, have an annual eye exam with an eye doctor in addition to consuming vitamin zinc and antioxidant-rich foods to protect your eyesight.
