Russia Joins the Nairobi International Convention

Russia has joined the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks, 2007.

The press office of the Council of the Russian Federation has reported. 

The Convention will apply to the wrecks in the Russian waters and exclusive economic zone.

The Nairobi International Convention provides a legal basis for member states to remove shipwrecks that may have the potential to adversely affect the safety of lives, goods, and property at sea, as well as the marine environment.

The Convention also provides a set of uniform international rules aimed at ensuring prompt and effective removal of wrecks located beyond the territorial sea.
